The abdominal group is just like any other muscle in the body; in order for strength/hypertrophy/endurance gains to be made, proper training and rest are important. The abdominal group is made up of the rectus abdominus (six pack), the internal and external obliques, and the transverse abdominus (internal corset). These can be worked all together or may be more isolated depending on your goals. Just like any other muscle group, if you spend time working on a particular muscle one day, 24-48 hours of rest between strength training sessions should be used in order to promote recovery and gains. However, if core stability is the goal, daily activation techniques may be used to incorporate these muscles without overly fatiguing them.
Look here for exercises to do for the abdominal strengthening and core stability.
