I've always been told to stretch before a workout- is that true?

Research suggests that beginning your workout with a dynamic warm-up, which involves active range of motion movements (such as arm circles and leg swings) is a safer and more effective way to prepare the body for exercise.


Static stretches (holding a stretch in one position without movement) is for the most part best reserved for the conclusion of the workout, as it is best to stretch muscles when they are properly warmed and therefore more pliable.
