I have lost alot of weight fast but I have belly fat that I can't seem to get rid of, any ideas?
Congratulations on your weight loss! Losing weight is challenging and it’s sometimes difficult to predict the end results. Fat tissue around the belly area can be incredibly stubborn to get rid of and a bit frustrating given how hard you’ve worked to reach this point.
First it’s important that you communicate your concerns to your medical provider. They will be able to discern whether your issues are indeed excess fat tissue or simply loose skin- a common problem many face who have lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Together with your physician, you can determine if additional weight loss is necessary and if so, set a final weight goal that is both realistic and healthy given your height, bone structure, and age.
Next you may want to consider working with a certified fitness professional to determine your current body composition. This measurement will provide an approximation ratio of fat to lean tissue. Based on the results, your fitness pro can develop a program that will help you decrease body fat while increasing overall muscle tone. This is a critical step towards maintaining your weight loss as metabolism is greatly influenced by body composition. Additionally, clinical studies continue to indicate that one of the strongest predictors of long-term weight control is exercise. And although there’s no such thing as “spot reduction” when it comes to fat loss (a common misconception), we can certainly define and tone muscle which can help you lose those last few stubborn pounds by revving up your metabolism and ultimately keeping the weight you’ve already lost from creeping back on.
A good place to begin getting ideas on exercise is the ACEFit website. From there you can select the Workouts and Programs button if you’re looking for an entire routine or simply browse through the Exercise Library for some new moves to spice up an existing program. ACEFit can also help you find an ACE-Certified fitness professional in your area. Enter your zip code and you can search through a number of professionals with a wide range of specialties who can help keep you on track towards reaching your fitness goals.
