I'm interested in getting certified to be a personal trainer for youth. Does ACE have a program for this?

Congratulations on your commitment to the health of our children. In 2010, the Surgeon General published a report specifically calling for improving the physical fitness of our youth. Currently 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese (DHHS, 2010). Obesity is a major health issue for both adults and children alike and contributes to about 112,000 preventable deaths each year. Today’s children are experiencing health problems normally reserved for their older adult counterparts including insulin resistance, above normal cholesterol/triglyceride levels, and hypertension.

Obtaining an ACE certification in personal training can be an important first step towards making an impact in our communities. As a leader in the fitness industry, an ACE certification offers the scientifically-based academic and practical knowledge to work with a variety of clients. ACE is also accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and is recognized throughout the United States and in 82 other countries.

Once certified, ACE offers a number of opportunities to advance your skills through specialty certifications. One of the newest and most exciting advanced certifications is the Youth Fitness Specialist. This certification is designed to help those who wish to work with the younger population gain scientific knowledge in motor development, pediatric physiology, as well as social and cognitive factors that are unique to children and teens. The Youth Fitness Specialist can partner with parents, schools, coaches, and healthcare professionals in the community to help create fitness programs aimed at improving health; while minimizing disease risk factors that are exacerbated by inactivity.

One of the many things that you will find helpful about ACE is accessibility. Customer service representatives are available Monday-Friday 7:00am-5:00pm (PST) to answer questions you may have about the certification process or any of the specialty programs that are offered to ACE professionals. Feel free to visit the ACE website to begin a live chat or call (888) 825-3636. You may also send your request via email to:

Making a difference in the health and wellbeing of others is certainly rewarding and the decision to hone your professional skills through ACE is one that you’ll find worthwhile and marketable as you move forward in your career.
